I once made a promise to stand by my dream
Staked out my lifeline on what I believed,
I Stood by my heart and the ones close to me
Swore I'd surrender what I did not need

I saw broken down rainbows and battle-scarred plans
Castles all crumbling back into sand
A fish out of water, couldn't swim on the land
Till I found me somebody who loved who I am
He loves who I am

Cry for freedom, cry for peace
Cry for mercy; don't cry for me

Relentless desire put a wrong spell on me
A lover who tantalized but stayed out of reach
I found my forgiveness way down on my knees
And learned to accept all the gifts I'd received

My harvest I reaped from the tears I had sown
My fingers were ripped from the things I had grown
Now I do not covet, I do not own
You are the heart of my flesh, blood and bone

Cry for freedom, cry for peace
Cry for mercy; don't cry for me

I have come up against it where the push came to shove
Come through the fire, I've come through the flood
As God is my witness and time is my judge
Whatever I've done I have done it for love

Little fish out of water -- I got caught in your net
For reasons of love the promise was kept
So come even closer than my every own breath
We cannot be parted [Lord] not even in death
